Marc Forster has had his fair share amount of successful and not-so successful films. He has made great films like Finding Neverland and Quantum of Solace. But, on the other side, he also made films like World War Z, which was a bit of a flop, and his new upcoming Christopher Robin movie, which is yet to be determined. Unfortunately, this movie is on the bad side of Marc Forster. Having a superb cast, including: Blake Lively, Jason Clarke, and Yvonne Strahovski and being directed by Marc Forster; where did this movie go wrong?
The movie follows Gina (Blake Lively), a blind woman, who lost her eyesight in a car accident and who lives with her husband, James (Jason Clarke), in Bangkok. She gets the chance of having a cornea transplant and undergoes the surgery. Everything seems to be going fine until she starts discovering disturbing details about her husband and herself.
From the synopsis alone, the movie might sound like a masterpiece waiting to be viewed, but don't be fooled. All I See Is You was advertised as a psychological thriller in an art house film format. The audience barley get any thrills nor do they get a beautiful looking film. Don't get me wrong, there were scenes that were absolutely mesmerizing, but weren't enough to make it count as an art house film. Talking about tension and thrills, there were barely any and this movie works on the level of psychological drama than thriller, which is a better name for it. The ending felt too abrupt as well, without a proper resolution for the story.
On the other side, the acting of Blake Lively was amazing, she held the movie for most of the time and got the audience invested in her. Her transition from a blind to an outgoing person felt very natural and not so abrupt. Jason Clarke also gives a good performance, he gave his character a very menacing personality but at the same time he is also a caring and loving husband. The performance of the cast was the best thing that stood out for me, personally.
All I See Is You doesn't reach the hype it got from the audience and proving that a great idea can have a bad outcome.
